Winter is here and with it snow and slush. One of many winter weather cleaning challenges is ice melt salt. While it may keep roads and sidewalks safe, ice melt can seriously damage floors. However, ProTeam can help prevent winter’s damage.
How Salt Damages Floors
Generally made with calcium chloride, ice melt salt is more effective in cold weather than rock salt, and leaves that familiar white powdery residue on floors. Left too long, the residue can dry and strip the finish, and eventually lead to splintering or dry rot. Given that over 22 million tons of salt are scattered over U.S. roads annually, there’s no escaping salt being tracked into your business.
Cleaning Entry Mats
The first line of defense for floors are walk-off mats. Entry matting captures salt, soil, and slush during the first few steps taken into the building. About 12-15 feet of matting is the industry standard. However, the length of the entry mat makes little difference if the mat is saturated with moisture. A wet/dry vacuum is great at picking up the residue left by winter weather. The portable ProGuard 4 paired with the Turbo Brush makes entry mat cleaning easy. The air-driven Turbo Brush increases agitation to help remove deep-down dirt from walk-off mats and medium to high pile carpet. Additionally, all ProTeam wet/dry vacuums offer the ProLevel Filtration you expect to capture particles large and small.
Cleaning Large Floors and Entryways
While a walk-off mat can make a big difference, some moisture and soil will inevitably still get tracked onto floors. For larger foyers and aisleways, a walk-behind wet/dry vac may be the solution. The ProGuard 15’s unique, variable wheel pattern allows for increased maneuverability and improved productivity, while the front mount squeegee removes water quickly and conveniently, leaving floors safe and dry.
Prevent Additional Damage
To ensure carpet and subflooring are fully dry during winter months, consider investing in an air mover. The telescoping handle and wheels of the ProBlitz XP AirMover make for easy maneuverability, and the daisy chain capabilities allow for large area drying.
