We all want to start the New Year with a fresh outlook and good habits that lead to success. In this blog ProTeam Regional Manager Mike Harrington shares four tips to improve your customer service and start 2017 out on the right foot. (And, as the winner of our 2016 Regional Manager of the Year Award, Mike knows what he’s talking about.)
Apply Mike Harrington’s four tips to supercharge your customer service and make your business more successful in 2017:
1. Be Curious
“Be genuinely curious about what your customer is up to. If you’re curious about how their business functions, you will figure out how to bring value to it. Back up, look at the big picture, and keep asking, ‘What do they need?’ You may be surprised at the answers you find.”
2. Teach and Learn
“Sometimes you’re collecting information and bringing it to your customer, like teaching the health benefits of your cleaning equipment and methods. Sometimes the customer is bringing information that you should learn from – for example: a complaint. Remember that the best learners are good teachers and the best teachers are good learners, and resolve to do both when dealing with your customers. They will appreciate that you are both listening to and acting on their information.”
3. Focus on What Works
“It can be tempting to focus all our attention on troubleshooting and putting out fires. In 2017, don’t let the negative that happens distract you from what is working best in your business. Focus on spending time with people who you can make successful and who can help make you successful. You’re much better off around people who help.”
4. Know When to Let Go
“If you aren’t helping someone and they aren’t helping you, know when to let that situation go. There may be some services that you’re not efficient at yet, or an employee that doesn’t gel with the team. If so, just make it end and take your lumps. Everybody appreciates the ability to exit a situation gracefully. So, if you lose, go out quickly. Don’t make it last forever.”
