ISSA just ended last Friday, and the Productivity Tips we collected are already helping us better manage our time and deflect distraction.
Here are 7 more Productivity Tips from ISSA 2016:
1. Be On Time
“If you’re late, you’re late. If you’re early, you’re on time. If you’re on time, you’re late.” Larry Murphy from Ametek emphasized the importance of punctuality, especially when it comes to team meetings.
2. Take the Time to Do It Right
In the attempt to be productive, we can move so fast that we make mistakes. Western Regional Manager Mike Harrington suggests slowing down and doing the job correctly. He says, “Nothing wastes more time than fixing unnecessary mistakes.” (Pictured below with Icky the Mop.)
3. Go Cordless
Director of Engineering Marty Huggins advises cleaning pros to look ahead to the release of our new cordless backpack vacuum next year. The new higher frequency motor will extend battery runtime, reducing time spent charging or changing batteries.
4. Prepare for Tomorrow
“Each shift needs to end their day with machines ready for the next day,” said Erwin Reyes of Daycon. He specifically emphasized the importance of well-maintained extension cords when putting away equipment.
5. Cut What Doesn’t Matter
Regional Manager Stephanie Mackey likes this quote from Peter Drucker: “Nothing is less productive than to make more efficient what should not be done at all.”
6. Improve the Big Tasks
Jeff Stone recommends honing in on the biggest tasks you do in a day. “For cleaning pros, vacuuming is one of the largest tasks you take on, a huge eater of labor. Just like the backpack vacuum doubled vacuuming productivity, the right tool can be a game changer if it improves a big part of the job.”
7. Plan for the Unplanned
Vice President of Sales Rich Steinberg likes this quote from Mike Tyson, “Everyone has a plan until they get hit in the face.” He recommends staying ready for the unplanned obstacles that life throws at us.
